How does a person get involved at newhope church?
Involvement can be defined several different ways. Some desire to simply attend our Sunday worship celebrations. Others may desire to get involved in a Small Group or one of our ministries. newhope church offers differing levels of involvement and our goal is to allow people to grow at their own pace and then serve according to their needs and the needs of the church. [TOP]

How do you become a member of newhope church?
The process of becoming a member is covered in our Abundant Life 101 Seminars. Membership is defined at newhope as “The 5 G’s of Membership.” Simply put, our members commit to growing in the Grace of God, participating in a Small Group, serving in ministry according to their Giftedness, by Giving the biblical tithe to advance God’s Kingdom around the world, and to Go, this occurs when one is faithfully re-producing themselves in others and thereby helping the church fulfill God’s vision for the body of Christ. Basic faith and the 5 G’s of membership are thoroughly discussed with Pastor Benji in Abundant Life 101 seminars. If you are interested, simply check the calendar for the next seminar, attend, and you will grow in your faith while meeting new people just like yourself. [TOP]

Is this a Christian church, or something else?
Though non-traditional in style, newhope is deeply committed to the eternal truths of the Christian faith. Simply put, we desire to Reach, Teach and Release God’s people into the world to advance God’s Kingdom. We strive to become nothing less than a biblically functioning community of believers. The Core Values of newhope are simple, but like any set of values, they shape who we are. Our Core Values are found listed on our web page in the About Us section. [TOP]

What about my kids - do they come to Worship with me?
Our children’s ministry, HopeTown, provides an exciting, quality experience for your birth through fifth grade child(ren) simultaneously with our adult worship service. This allows you to maximize your experience at newhope while your child (ren) is receiving high-levels of care and attention. What about my middle school and high school students?
Youth typically love our Sunday morning worship at newhope. Also, the youth ministry of newhope is called highlife. highlife exists for all 6th – 12th graders. All 6th - 8th graders meet on Sunday mornings at 10:15 am, all 9th - 12th graders meet on Sunday evenings at 6:00 pm, at the church. Does newhope have a group for those in their 20’s to 30’s?
We understand that it is hard to achieve a balance between faith and everyday life. This is especially true for young adults finishing up school and entering the work force as they are faced with a whole new set of challenges. The Young Adults ministry strives for a balance between having fun and enjoying our faith. The group is predominately composed of individuals in their 20’s and early 30’s and meets in weekly small groups and at various social outings. For more information, contact our Young Adults leader, Alicia Hermann youngadults@newhopenc.org[TOP]

What kind of church is this and who is Pastor Benji?
newhope is not your typical church. Our passion is to communicate the timeless truths of God in refreshing and culturally relevant ways. newhope is a place where you can come as you are and experience God in ways that are practical, relevant, and applicable to your personal life. Benji Kelley is the founding and senior pastor of newhope. Pastor Benji was born and raised in South Carolina, until he came to North Carolina to attend Duke University. "Once in the area, I fell in love with Amy Lynn and the area and never went home," Benji says. Benji holds Associate and Bachelor Degrees in Science and Religion from the University of South Carolina. He earned both a Master of Divinity Degree in 1997 and a Master of Theology Degree in 2000 from Duke University’s Divinity School. In 2000, Pastor Benji was accepted into the prestigious Beeson Pastor Program at Asbury Theological Seminary, in Kentucky, where he began his doctoral studies. Since returning to North Carolina, planting newhope, and helping Amy Lynn raise five children, Benji completed his studies from Asbury’s Doctor of Ministry Program in Biblical Preaching and Church Leadership. Most recently, Pastor Benji has been hand selected, along with 27 other pastors, to particpate in a 5 year inter-denominational study grant on maintaining pastoral excellence.
The dream and passion of newhope is to reach out to the people of Chapel Hill, Durham, and surrounding areas through an innovative approach involving the use of contemporary music, drama, multi-media and practical messages. We exist to welcome all people and together become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. [TOP]

What should I wear and what will the services be like?
Simply put, newhope church encourages people to wear whatever feels most comfortable and appropriate to them. We have a fairly relaxed and casual dress code and people are encouraged to come in whatever feels most comfortable for them. The services of worship will always be contemporary and culturally relevant. The music and messages will be passionate, uplifting, and full of high energy. We will never compromise the message of God, but will strive to present the story of Jesus in a way that connects with your story and gives you strength and encouragement. [TOP]

Will I have to say anything, sing anything, sign anything, give anything, or be singled out in any way?
At newhope, you can rest assured you will never be put on the spot, never singled-out, and never embarrassed. Furthermore, if you are a guest, you will be encouraged to feel no obligation to participate in the offering. Our hope is that you will let the service be our gift to you! [TOP]
