Who is Jesus?

Maybe you have wondered from time to time, who in the world is Jesus? I think it is safe to say that more people have pondered that question about Jesus than any other human being in the history of the world. Personally, I think that question and the answer that one comes to in his or her spirit, has the ability to profoundly impact the trajectory of one’s life!

At newhope, we believe the answer to that question inevitably determines everything we do as a church. It was CS Lewis who once said, Jesus was either Lord, Liar, or Lunatic!  I believe he was exactly right.

For me, I have concluded that He was/is nothing less than the Lord!  One of my favorite poems is entitled, “One Solitary Life.”  It goes like this:

One Solitary Life

He was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman. He grew up in still another village, where he worked in a carpenter shop until he was thirty.  Then for three years was an itinerant preacher.

  • He never wrote a book.
  • He never held an office.
  • He never had a family  or owned a house.
  • He didn’t go to college.
  • He never traveled 200 miles from the place where he was born.
  • He did none of these things one usually associates with greatness.
  • He had no credentials but himself.
  • He was only 33 when public opinion turned against him. His friends ran away.  He was turned over to his enemies and went through the mockery of a trial.  He was nailed to a cross between two thieves.
  • When he was dying, his executioners gambled for his clothing, the only property he had on earth.  When he was dead, he was laid in a borrowed grave through the pity of a friend.

Nineteen centuries have come and gone, and today He is the central figure of the human race, the leader of mankind’s progress. All the armies that have ever marched, all the navies that ever sailed, all the parliaments that ever sat, all the kings that ever reigned, put together, have not affected the life of man on earth as much as that One Solitary Life.

So, all of this begs the question, what have you concluded about Jesus Christ? My hope and prayer is that you would give that question serious consideration. I also hope and pray that if you are perusing this website and have made it this far, something is stirring inside of you and that you are being drawn to experience Jesus Christ as the Lord and Savor of life!  If that is the case, I want to invite you pray the prayer listed below and give your heart, mind, body and soul to Jesus Himself!  He is the One who first loved you and gave His life for you on a cross 2,000 years ago!  Becoming a Christian is not as complicated as many people have made it in the past. If you want to know Christ and receive Him into your heart this day, than I hope you will humble yourself and simply pray:

Dear Jesus,  Thank you for making me and loving me, even when I’ve ignored you and gone my own way.  I realize I need you in my life and I’m sorry for my sins. I ask you to forgive me. Thank you for dying on the cross for me.  Please help me to understand it more.  As much as I know how, I want to follow you from now on.  Please come into my life and make me a new person inside. I accept your gift of salvation.  Please help me to grow now as a Christian.”

Here is a powerful promise from God –

Whoever calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.”
